This Sunday we are tackling the Slow Freeder Bowl head on!

So, you might have seen these pop up in your Instagram feed, on Pinterest, TikTok, they are pretty much everywhere!
Pet parents all over are creating these stunning, yet good-for-your-dog bowls, and every week there's more of you that are keen to jump on the good trend.
We get messages from you all the time asking about our slow feeders, the toppings and specific bowls we have used/our ambassadors have used!

Benefits of a Slow Feeder Bowl:

  • Better digestion: by forcing your dog to eat slower it gives their tummy time to actually process the food better.
  • Reduces risk of chocking.
  • Assist with reducing belly bloat.
  • Can help eliminate tummy aches (by forcing your dog to eat slowly).
  • Provide mental stimulation for your dog.
  • Helps you see what your dog is eating! Yes colour & variety are key to a good health.

Ok, ok enough chatter! What do I need to create these healthy yet aesthetically pleasing bowl?

What you need (aka ingredients/tools):

  • 1 slow feeder bowl (we have used our Sodapup honeycomb bowl)
  • Veggies of choice. We opted for:
  • Sweet potato
  • Carrot
  • Broccolini
  • Protein of choice. We used:
  • Shark jerky
  • NZ Green Lipped Mussels
  • Seafood food topper
  • Eggs
  • Goat milk & flower drops, for extra health benefits + gorgeousness*
    * "gorgeous" must be pronounced like a real Boston, USA, local *

Process:

Step 1: Get your slow feeder bowl and fill it with your choice of veggies.
For this recipe we opted to mash our carrot and sweet potato in a separate bowl, prior to serving.

Step 2: Add the eggs.

Step 3: Add the broccolini. Dividing them up into the available casings, making sur they are somewhat evenly spaced out.

Step 4 & 5: Add the NZ Green Lipped Mussels.
Add the food topper. In this recipe we used our seafood food topper.

Step 6: Place the shark jerky on top and add in anything else which you may have left over into the separate casings.

Step 7: Pop your pretty Goat Milk drops on top as decoration!

Summary:

Slow feeder bowls are an excellent way to improve your dog's digestion and stimulate their senses.

By forcing your dog to eat slower, it gives their metabolism more time to digest, reducing the risk of post-meal tummy aches, belly bloat, and chocking from eating too fast!

Feeding your dog from a slow feeder instead of a standard dog bowl is also beneficial to their mental health. It reciprocates the way dogs used to eat centuries ago, before being domesticated. When they used to have to 'work' to get their food. This also stimulates saliva production which again aids the digestive system.

We could go on about the benefits to changing your dog's standard food bowl up for a slow feeder as the benefits WAY outweigh the way we have gotten used to feeding our dogs.

Food is fuel!
As a dog owner you have the power as you are in control of their diet. Use this to your advantage, in training, to bond with them, to stimulate them mentally, to keep them satisfied and their little bodies healthy.
